  • Vol. 1, p. 18, "When you fill a bucket with a small amount of water, it does not hang vertically." possibly change to "When you fill a bucket, assuming zero friction in the handle joints, with a small amount of water, it does not hang vertically." for clarity? I assumed friction was the cause in answering the challenge before thinking of the possibility of center of gravity and the way the water would be distributed in the bucket... (CS: well, these are the pitfalls that everybody must overcome ...)
  • Vol. 1, p. 227, footnote Emmy Noether: Correct "Bryn Mayr" to "Bryn Mawr" (CS: thank you!)
  • Vol. 1, p. 254. line 4: Correct "many otherwise ship sinkings" to "many otherwise unexplained ship sinkings" (CS: thank you!)

  • Vol. 1, p. 335, Challenge 636e: The night would not be dark only if matter density is above a certain minimum value throughout the whole universe and if no black matter existed. Should I elaborate on this in a solution to the challenge? (CS: no, I will do it; I will add Olbers' paradox)
  • Vol. 1, p. 357, the link www.wgs84.com seems to be broken (timeout) (CS: yes, I have to add a NASA link instead.)


  • Vol. 2, p. 278+279, the "Limits to Precision" section is copied on both those pages. (CS: thank you !)
